Quinn was born in a family of five, with him being the youngest of the bunch. Having been born into a loud family and living in a loud city like Goldenrod, one would think he was well acquainted with noise and people. He wasn't. He still isn't. His parents were quiet when he needed them to be as well as when he wanted them not to be, but his two older brothers were chatterboxes and constantly showed off and taunted him, which settled a deep distaste for a cluster of people but a bitterness towards talented, flashy people.

When he was old enough for kindergarten, he met the flashiest boy who wasn't his brothers: a Latios who was pretty good with the bat, or at least said he was. Quinn didn't believe it, at first. He refused to believe that boy was anything but hot air and unfounded confidence. And yet that Latios had playmates at recess while Quinn was left to himself. Perhaps he would have stayed bitter had the boy not sat with him at lunch and offered him his pudding cup. That was the day he considered Elliot Forman his best friend.

Maybe he was too quick to hate and too quick to befriend, but Elliot stayed a constant in Quinn's life. Their mothers became friends quickly after picking the boys up and planned out play dates for them. He liked the time away from his brothers and his parents, and he was sure they felt the same way. Plus, he really liked Elliot. Sure, he showed off but he was actually pretty good at baseball, and he was really nice to him. Because of this, Quinn always made an extra pbj sandwich for Elliot to take. Elliot's father was as supportive as Elliot; every day, Quinn would watch the two of them play catch and throw and pitch and bat. He treated him the same way, thanking him for giving his son an extra lunch and feeding him well. He kind of wished his family was like this.

---

At the start of middle school, Quinn started to wonder if they were friends out of pity or obligation. He hadn't really thought about it before, but once Elliot got serious about baseball, he didn't see him as much. Of course he would be busy, but every year Elliot got more and more spectacular and wonderful, and Quinn stayed impatient and annoying and rude. He doubted that he had any good traits, and he started to wonder if maybe Elliot had been his good traits this entire time? What would happen if Elliot realized this, too? Maybe he already had, from the lack of time they had together. Quinn started making only one lunch after a while.

Rumors didn't really hold much weight, but in middle school they seemed to matter more. When Quinn first heard that Elliot had been seen kissing a girl behind the dug out after a baseball game, something burned inside the Fennekin. Elliot kissed a girl? But what was there to a girl? He could have just kissed him instead! When Quinn thought about that, he stopped trying to see Elliot.

He felt embarrassed, crushed, infuriated about it all. He was just so confused, and he wasn't sure where all these feelings were coming from. He felt embarrassed, thinking he was important to Elliot when he was just an asshole kid who probably confided way too much in him about his family and about himself. He felt crushed that he could be easily replaced with popularity and baseball and girls, and he was infuriated that he was most upset with the idea that Elliot kissed someone who wasn't him. Was he gay? Was this what being gay was?

Elliot invited him to a baseball game. Quinn wasn't sure if he could make it. While he did have a word to explain how he had been feeling, to actually say that word aloud frightened him. He went to Elliot's baseball game; he was wonderful. They spent the night together and apologized to each other, something he hadn't really expected. He managed to come out to Elliot, and Elliot accepted him. It was enough, but not quite.

---

High school was mostly Quinn trying to cope with his crush. First year was uneventful. He had gotten used to Elliot's baseball schedule, and went to his games when he could. He didn't go to every game, but he tried to make it to the ones that mattered. Second year was just the same, except that he started to get attention after winter break. His blond hair grew golden, red hair sprouting where white hair once was and growing longer and silkier. As a Braixen, Quinn took more care of his appearance and by the end of second year, he had gained a few admirers.

By third year, Quinn had a boyfriend. He wasn't great, but he wasn't bad. He was gay and he looked past his ugly personality. Sadly, it was a dull relationship. Neither could really seem to care, and it was obvious that Quinn was still thinking of Elliot. Feeling guilty of his insincerity, Quinn broke it off. Afterwards, Elliot's father passed. When he did, Elliot broke down and confided in him. It had always been Quinn escaping in Elliot, never the other way around. He stayed with Elliot after that. It was around this time that Quinn realized that he was important to Elliot, and that they were together out of choice. Quinn realized he was in love with Elliot, as well.

---

Quinn and Elliot went to Ajisai Academy immediately after graduating high school. It made sense, since they've lived in Goldenrod their entire lives, and they wouldn't have to worry about being far from each other. Things were good in Ajisai, for the most part. Quinn figured out he wanted to be an Executive Chef, and took classes that helped him reach that goal. Elliot was planning on being a professional Baseball Player and Quinn genuinely believed he could do it.

His feelings for Elliot would never die, but he refused to let it ruin their friendship. He figured he just needed someone else to love, and he might have better chances in college than in high school. In third year, Quinn started seeing someone. He didn't go to the school, but he lived nearby and he was nice to look at. He went out with his date to the bar one night after finals, looking for a bit of a break that his date was eager to offer. Sadly, things started going south when his date had a little too much to drink and started laying hands on him. Just as he was about to be kissed, Elliot came in and dragged Quinn out of there. Elliot fumed and raved and got red in the face as they walked. He said things like "You're too good for him and that he'd "be better" to him. Quinn punched him lightly in the shoulder, hiding his blushing face with his jacket.

The next day, Elliot got the shit beat out of him. Quinn had called for help while Elliot and last night's date got into a fist fight, but Elliot got out of it with a visit to the hospital. Before he went, Quinn had propped his head on his lap, about to make a joke on how much this would cost Elliot's mom. Before he could, Elliot said he was in love with him. Quinn cried like a baby and looked like an idiot.
